I realise that broadband shouldn’t even be mentioned on a computer history site - not for the next 10 years or so anyway. We should all be taking about dial up modems, but have a think how much broadband itself has changed over the past 5 years or so? Just 5 years ago, we were dreaming of upgrading from our 56K modems to 512K broadband - now jump to today, if we can’t get 2GB on our mobile phones, we’re disappointed! Mobile broadband is now operating at speeds we used to dream about on our landline connections - just a few years ago. Many users are now ditching their home computers, buying cheap laptops and taking their Internet access on the move - and good on them. Not only that, mobile broadband is often much easier to get than a landline hookup with most mobile network operators offering a mobile broadband package along with their current mobile phone deals or even as an all inclusive package with the mobile phone contracts on offer.

If broadband moves as quickly has it has done over the next 10 years, I can only imagine the technology we’re in for. I am sure we’ll hit a limit soon where we simply don’t need the extra bandwidth.
